Hiroshima

The Peace Dome

BEFORE AFTER
Visiting the Hiroshima Peace Park was one of the most moving experiences
of my life.  The dome pictured above has been left he way it was rendered
after the bombing of Hiroshima as a reminder of the devastation
that follows the use of nuclear weapons.

Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes

The story is about a young victim of the Hiroshima bomb.  While in the
hospital suffering from leukemia, Sadako fashioned origami paper cranes.
Hoping that, as Japanese tradition holds, after making one thousand
paper cranes, her wish would be granted.  Sadako was hoping
for a cure.
At Hiroshima Peace Park there is a
memorial to Sadako.  Here people
from all over the world, place paper
cranes in memory of Sadako and in
hope for an end to nuclear
proliferation.
Garlands of paper cranes and letters of hope placed at the base of the Sadako memorial.
I added a paper crane to the
menagerie.
